9 Questions from Elder Ballard

In this last General Conference, Elder M. Russell Ballard spoke in the Priesthood Session to all of the young adult men about raising the bar for their generation. Though his talk "The Greatest Generation of Young Adults" was directed to the young men in conference, it can and should be applied to everyone - children, grandparents, young men and young women, mothers and fathers - since each of us needs to continually ponder the strength of our spirit and testimony.

Like I mentioned Elder Ballard shared that it is time to raise the bar. He said:

"What we need now is the greatest generation of
young adults in the history of the Church.
We need your whole heart and soul.
We need vibrant, thinking, passionate young adults
who know how to listen and respond to the
whisperings of the Holy Spirit as you
make your way through the daily trials and temptations
of being a young, contemporary Latter-day Saint."

He asked that you imagine sitting down in a one-on-one interview with him where he would ask the following questions to determine the strength of your testimony and devotion to God. My hope in re-sharing his questions is that you will take the time to really answer these questions during your scripture study, while writing in your journal, or in prayer. It is also a great topic for FHE if you are in the charge of the lesson :)

The questions are:

1.  Do you search the scriptures regularly?

2.  Do you kneel in prayer to talk with your Heavenly Father each morning and each night?

3.  Do you fast and donate a fast offering each month—even if you are a poor, struggling student who can’t afford to donate much?

4.  Do you think deeply about the Savior and His atoning sacrifice for you when you are asked to prepare, bless, pass, or partake of the sacrament?

5.  Do you attend your meetings and strive to keep the Sabbath day holy?

6.  Are you honest at home, school, church, and work?

7.  Are you mentally and spiritually clean? Do you avoid viewing pornography or looking at websites, magazines, movies, or apps, including Tinder and Snapchat photos, that would embarrass you if your parents, Church leaders, or the Savior Himself saw you?

8.  Are you careful with your time—avoiding inappropriate technology and social media, including video games, which can dull your spiritual sensitivity?

9.  Is there anything in your life you need to change and fix, beginning tonight?

Take the time to ponder your testimony, your heart, your actions. Where do you stand with God?

And if you'd like to watch Elder Ballard's talk you can do so below or here:

Happy Memorial Weekend!

It's Memorial Weekend here in the U.S.
For many that means a day off of school and perhaps a camping trip or fun weekend getaway!

But we just wanted to briefly remember what Memorial Day is really about!
It is always celebrated the last Monday in May and is a day to remember all of the men and women who have died while serving in the United States armed forces.

We honor those who have given their lives serving their country.
And we are thankful for their dedication and sacrifice.

If you have lost a loved one in the armed forces, our hearts go out to you.

Favorite Things Friday: Ode to Thor

The new Avengers movie came out this month,
and while I haven't dragged myself out of the house to see it yet
I thought today's Favorite Things Friday should focus on some Superhero awesomeness!

But most importantly, my Superhero love lies with Thor.
I mean, how could it not!!!!

So since I'm writing this post I get to share my favorite funny finds about Thor.
Maybe we'll focus on the other heroes another day. Maybe.

Enjoy!

Fear not, I am with thee.

Some days I feel alone.
And I know I'm not the only one who feels this way right?

Our worries or struggles can make us feel isolated.
We may feel like no one understands or cares.

But I'm here to tell you that the Lord is ALWAYS with you.
It can be hard to tell, but say a prayer and ask for help in recognizing His presence.
Because He is there.

(from our Spring 2015 Issue)

There was a great talk given by Sister Jean A. Stevens in the April 2014 General Conference
called "Fear Not; I Am with Thee" that is such a great example of being surrounded by God's love.
PLEASE read it or watch it below.
I personally loved the stories that she shared of individuals who were experiencing loneliness or trial and how they were able to recognize and feel the presence of God in their lives.

You are not alone.
You are loved.

And I hope that you have a Happy Tuesday. :)

Mother's Day is this weekend!
And your mom deserves something special, right?

But that doesn't mean you have to empty your piggy bank to do something nice for her.
Read below to see some of our Simple & FREE ideas
that will let your mom know how AWESOME she is!!!!!!!

------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Shower" Your Mom with Compliments

Cut some small paper raindrops or stars or whatever shape you want.
On each one write something you love about your mom.
Hang them from the ceiling with string in her room or bathroom or kitchen...
wherever you think she'd like to see them!

And similar to the image above, you could even make some white tissue paper clouds!
This is definitely a great way to "Shower" your Mom with love!

Old School Hand Print

Remember when you were five and gave your mom a handprint so she'd always
remember how cute and little you were?
Well break out the paint and make another cute handprint for her :)

You could turn it into a cupcake, a family tree, some cool heart art,
maybe a watercolor or something with a little poem.

And even though you're not five, you're mom is guaranteed to still love the cuteness of it!

Coupon Book

Get a bunch of index cards or small pieces of paper
and make your Mom a coupon book of things you will do to help her out.

Some ideas of coupons you could include are:

Washing the dishes when it's not your turn.
Give her a hand or foot massage.
Make dinner for her one night.
Take care of an extra chore she does.
Watch younger siblings so she can run errands alone.
Clean the bathrooms.
Help fold and put away laundry.
Entertain siblings when she needs extra help.
Take out the trash for a week.

You can also find lots of FREE printables to use for coupon books
if you don't want to make your own.
I love the ones from Tidy Mom or the cute ones at Skip to My Lou as well!

Memory Jar

On small strips of paper write out your favorite memories of your Mom.
It could be things you've done together, something you remember her doing,
a favorite vacation you took, etc.
Fold the strips and put them in a mason jar.

You could add a cute label or tag too!
